I see in Rye News that comments are still being posted about my article which was published in November 2020 (A trip down memory lane) so I thought the following anecdote might prompt a few more comments from your readers.
I remember Rye Police Station in Watchbell Street in the early 60s before it was later moved down to Cinque Ports Street where they it remains today, opening only 3 days a week and for only a few hours.
In the earlier days police would drive through the area with regular patrols or ‘pound the beat’ by foot but now, you are lucky to see a policeman either walking or driving.
In the early 70s Rye police had a darts team who played every Tuesday night in the Hacking league. I can remember playing in the police station upstairs in their social room where we enjoyed very friendly and pleasant evenings with them. Then, most pubs had a dart team who would meet with other dart players and play darts, have a drink or two and put the world to rights. Ah, good times, all gone now, shame really.

Drove by the police station Tuesday I noticed the front door was open , I thought should I dial 999
I remember Rye Police having teams in the Local snooker league and even teams in the Summer putting league on the putting green. Sadly with all the cuts in numbers, a change of name from the “Police force” to “Police service” and the WOKE culture there is little connection/relationship between the Police and Community. Very Sad indeed.
