Rye Rugby Clubhouse was buzzing with anticipation on Saturday June 29 as the Rye Town football teams and their families waited for the annual awards ceremony.

Shane Ridgers, manager of Rye Town FC said: “It was a great night celebrating a very successful season for both teams. I want to say a huge thank you to all our sponsors: we really appreciate your continued support and another huge thank you to our amazing, committed players. I am proud to be part of such a great club. Our whole family invests in the club but we couldn’t do it without the dynamo who is my wife Charmaine – she is the best.

“And the last thank you goes to all our supporters, management team, Alec Tiltman our lino, and Michelle Highams for washing the kits every week; also Rye Rugby Club and Frankie’s at the Beach and Rye Rugby Club.”

The award that is most coveted is the Player’s Player as it is chosen by the winner’s teammates. This year the award was won by Dan Kearley for the first team, with runner-up Darren Warne; for the reserve team the winner was Owen Brown and the runner-up Callum Hadway, who also won the Supporter’s Player trophy and Man of the Match.

There was one more reward for the Club photographer, kt Bruce, who had captured some spell-binding moments.

The team is always looking for sponsorship for the whole team and for individual players.
This sponsorship means that football is more accessible and affordable for more people in Rye. It helps to foster great skills, teamwork and collaboration, physical fitness, strategic thinking, discipline and perseverance, confidence and self-esteem.
