Last week was a busy week for the Rye & District Bonfire Society.
Last Wednesday February 19 saw the return of our ever-popular quiz night at the Mermaid Inn. The ‘Motorway Services or Cheese’ round provoked a lot of debate and much laughter for the teams. Our next quiz will be on Wednesday May 7.
Saturday February 22 was our Chitty Chitty Bang Bang sing-along at the Community Centre. Some of the songs proved surprisingly difficult to sing! Toot Sweet whistles were valiantly blown, fortunately not attracting a pack of dogs from the surrounding streets. Thank you to our friends at Rye Film Club, we could not put these film events on without them. Their next film is The Outrun on March 7, at Rye Community Centre, do go along to support them.
We are very grateful to everyone who supports our fundraising events, which all help toward the costs of the Rye Bonfire extravaganza, taking place this year on Saturday November 15.
Our main fundraiser, the Auction of Promises, will be on Wednesday July 2 at the Mermaid Inn. If you are a local business which benefits from the visitors that the bonfire celebrations bring to the town and would like to offer something for the auction, please contact us through funding@ryebonfire.co.uk.
