Rising to the occasion

We all know how tough things are at present, there’s doom and gloom in all the media, election fever has set in and the future looks uncertain for some but thankfully, it hasn’t affected the resolve of many of our local businesses who continue to be there for all of us, whatever else is going on around. Yet all we hear about locally is how well so many of our High Street shops are doing: Knoops for example, about to expand worldwide; Ethel Loves Me have just expanded into Tenterden; The Lookout on East Cliff is looking to expand considerably; Frankies on the Beach has just invested in another catering outlet at Rye Rugby Club, to name just a few of our businesses who are bucking the national trend.

With Peasmarsh Place celebrating 40 years of providing care for the elderly, a celebration has been organised with a Summer Fete next Saturday June 22 starting at 10.30am and finishing around 5.00pm and includes an obligatory raffle!

As the profits of the day are being given to Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital the prizes needed to be good. Local shops and businesses were approached, an introductory letter distributed, then any donations collected by arrangement.

The response was staggering with a whole host of wonderful gifts. Included from the food and hospitality sector there were donations from The George in Rye, Rye Deli, The William the Conqueror, Rye Bay Fish, New Inn Winchelsea, Haydens coffee shop and restaurant, Rye Chocolates and Tillingham Vineyards. Local shops also gave generously including The Paper Place, Rye Cook Shop, The Kind Table, WJ Bennett, Craft Magic, Forget Me Not, Concepts, Wildeye, Ethel Loves Me, The Golden Fleece, Adams of Rye, Curious and Curiouser, Rye Book Shop, Byzantium jewellery and gifts, and Rye Harbour Holiday Park.

On behalf of the team at Peasmarsh Place, I would like to give a huge shout out to the above and thank them all sincerely for their support, good will and exceptional generosity. If you want to share in this treasure trove of gifts then do come along and take part.

Entry and parking is free, so come and enjoy all the fun of a country fete as you relax in the grounds of this magnificent country house whilst listening to a variety of live music throughout the day. There’s plenty of stalls and things to enjoy for all ages, for younger visitors there’s hook the duck, face painting, toddler and bubble play areas  For older children and adults there’s a coconut shy, splat the rat, hoopla, guess the weight of the cake, name the rabbit, entertainment from Rye Players, the raffle, dog obedience display, tombola, cream teas on the lawn, a Pimms tent and a barbeque.

You are therefore cordially invited to join us at Peasmarsh Place to celebrate in style; it promises to be an event to remember so please come along and enjoy the fun. We are easy to find, just along from Peasmarsh Church on Church Lane, look out for the bunting. Thanks everyone for your support.
