Sophie Thorpe and Caroline Drummond have created a community interest company (CIC) called Rye Youth Zone CIC, or RYZ for short. They are working with Rye and District Boys’ Club, in the hope this partnership will bring a youth provision to Rye in the near future.
On Saturday October 19, Sophie and Caroline presented their ideas to an invited audience of people who had shown an interest in the project and of key representatives of community organisations, so all could get involved in the initial discussions.
So what is Rye Youth Zone?
What activities do they hope to offer?
The message was clear: “It won’t happen without your help!” If this project is to be the success it deserves to be, it is important to get a band of volunteers, stakeholders and partners who can contribute to it, offer their support, their ideas and their time.
So how can you get involved?

Mayor Andy Stuart and Niki Stuart came to support as did the local police officer Demetrius Georghiou from Sussex Police.
The presentation was thorough and well thought out and much of it was based on the questionnaire that the youngsters of Rye and their parents had completed. Their comments and feedback will play a significant part in the set up of the club for the youngsters.
After the presentation Sophie and Caroline took the attendees down to the proposed site in the old Rye and District Boys’ Club. It is the most wonderful blank canvas and there is lots of scope to create a centre where children can thrive, flourish, make friends and feel safe. Well done to two mums who have vision and enthusiasm and the drive to see this come to fruition. If you want to help please contact info@theryz.com
