Since the Christmas in Rye festival last year, where I had the opportunity to work with Kt Bruce, I have been looking forward to working with her again. Kt is a professional photographer who captures most of the key events that happen in Rye.
Kt has taken me under her wing as she says I have talent and a good eye photographically. She is easy to get on with and encourages me to step out of my comfort zone but she is always there in case it doesn’t go to plan. It is good for me to watch and learn and then to have the chance to put it all into practice. She will talk me through my photos and show me how I might improve the shot. I really enjoy this as I can see my progress already.
I have learnt so much, including how to position myself in different places, looking from the ground up or peeking around a corner to capture quirky shots. I have learnt how to get permission to photograph people and although this was really difficult at first and also made me nervous, the more I do it the more confidence I get.
That’s probably the biggest thing Kt has given me, confidence and with this confidence I feel my photos are so much better now. I won’t just take a photo, I will observe, try different angles and then take a few shots and check. I am really happy that so many of my photos are turning out so well.
I really enjoyed photographing part of the Rye Scallop week on March 1 and I can’t wait to work with Kt at more local events throughout the year.
The 21st scallop week was an amazing event with the town buzzing and running out of scallops. Here is a video to give you just a taste of scallops, masterclasses, music and the fun people had, in case you missed it.
