The former pet shop in the High Street was recently bought by Nick Cocutt and partner, Michael Peplar. These two visionary individuals took on quite a task to renovate the property. They are hoping to restore it into something wonderful and make it their own. For the shop itself they haven’t a final plan but are renting it out at the moment for pop-up shops. Jane Conlin saw an opportunity and had the first pop-up. As it was a charity project, Nick and Michael allowed Jane to use the shop free of charge from Monday June 10 to Saturday June 22.
It was a lot of work to set up but undaunted, Jane with friends and husband Lyn, gathered the equipment needed and the necessary stock to open as a pre- loved fashion charity shop. Lyn decorated and helped with the physical side of the set up and friends parted with some of their beautiful clothes. Nearly everyday, one rack or another was nearly empty but not for long as more clothes were brought in. Jane has a great flare for presentation, and with a smile she encouraged people to buy.
It was incredibly successful with help from Sandy Knight and Christina Hurst to support Jane who said: “Rye rallied round keeping me stocked with fashion to sell.” On the last day, they closed with very little left. As said, it was hard work, mainly for Jane and Lyn but she did not lose her skill for making people comfortable with her welcoming smile.
The total amount raised was £2801.50. “I am so delighted with the outcome as the money will help two charities close to my heart: Rye and District Community Bus and St Michaels Hospice.”
Jane would like to thank everyone who rallied round with their practical help and individuals who supported this venture by donating clothes.
