Among the many events at Great Expectations was the Rye and London based Wall of Sound Singing Ensemble, under its musical director, Rye resident Sandra Scott. Beginning with two appearances on the cold wind swept stage at the Strand Quay, they then went on to St Marys to join the audience and other performers in the carol concert, where they sang Brahm’s Lullaby, Silent Night and Still Still Still in English and German, and joined in other carols.
The evening was rounded off with a rousing performance at the Oak pub in Peasmarsh, where the Wall of Sound truly lived up to its name, with a programme which included rousing jazz guitar and soprano solos.
The ensemble’s previous engagement this month was a classical recital in the beautiful St John Church at Waterloo, London.
The ensemble is a friendly choir, with a wide repertoire, from sea shanties to Irish traditional, Gospel and classical songs. It welcome singers of all levels who have a sense of humour and can attend regular rehearsals and practices, in London and/or Rye.
